WHO I AM
I am Luna Fleming. My pronouns are they/them. I have autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, dyspraxia, hypermobility, scoliosis and other disabilities. I have a vast range of knowledge helping others to accommodate disabled people, and helping disabled people accommodate themselves.
Experience and Qualifications
I have completed a level 5 in software development and I am currently studying towards a degree in sociology and computer science. I have held a variety of roles similar to an access consultant in the past and currently. I am in my second year of working as an access ambassador with UCC’S access service. I am also the disability rights representative on the student union. I have my own activism group for disability and mental health which has held successful protests. I have served two years on AHEAD and AMLE’s students with disability advisory group.
My Lived Experience
When I was diagnosed with autism at 17, I realised I had been living in a world I did not understand, and a world that did not understand me. I got several diagnoses thereafter but never much support. I had to fight very hard for what I am entitled to and still never got much of it. Navigating employment, education and public life is hard as a disabled person, but I truly believe it can be made easier with simple solutions and a bit of empathy.
